Team SOP - Communication Procedure Words
Concepts
- No Good News - Dont get on radio to say everything is great. ONLY if specific comms windows
- Military/NATO Phonetic Alphabet - Alpha, Bravo, Charlie, etc
- Plain Speak - Talking completely normal
- Pro Words - Procedure words, specific words that mean specific things
- Encryption - codebook, digital, etc
- When starting a conversation with someone, you dont have to constantly say over
- When having a conversation, you don’t have to constantly say “hey you this is me”
Reports
- CAN - Conditions, Actions, Needs
- LACE - Liquids, Ammo, Casualties, Equipment
- SALUTE- Size, Activity, Location, Unit, Time, and Equipment
- EMLCOA - Enemy’s Most Likely Course Of Action
- EMDCOA - Enemy’s Most Dangerous Course Of Action
- DRAW-D - Defend, Reinforce, Attack, Withdrawal, Delay
Pro / Procedure Words
- How Copy - how do you read me, do you get my message
- Over - I am done talking, waiting for a reply
- Out - I am leaving this net ie turning radio off, etc
- This Is - designator immediately follows “this is bravo 1”
- Radio Check - I am here checking my radio
- Message Follows - something important is coming
- Be Advised - another important message coming, more precedence than routine traffic
- Unknown Station - I dont recognize you, may need to reauthenticate
- Priority (Traffic) - elevating your traffic above routine “higher this is me, priority message follows”
- Wait One - wait one moment
- Wait Out - this is going to take me a minute, might have to go check on something
- Acknowledge - do you understand what I sent you
- Read Back - tell me what I told you
- Break - break in transmission, not done yet, during long transmission, let people catch up on writing on receiving end, I’m about to talk again
- Break, Break, Break - break into someone else’s conversation, two people having a long conversation you need to break into
- Radio Silence - stop using radios
- Radio Silence Lifted - start using radios again
- Relay To / Relay From - “you this is me, relay from HQ, message as follows”
- Affirmative - yes
- Negative - no
- Correct - you are correct
- Roger - I have received your last message, I understand your last
- Wilco - I have received and will comply (dont need to use Roger AND Wilco, its dumb)
- Figures (Follow) - get ready for numbers
- I Read Back - I’m about to read back what you sent to me
- I Spell - about to spell something out phonetically
- More To Follow - hold up, more message coming
- Say Again - repeat last message
- Speak Slower - obviously
- I Understand All Before (this word) / Word After - “say again all after WORD”, “say again word before WORD”
- Correction (To Last Transmission) - make a correction
- Disregard - realize you dont need to actually say something or talk to someone
- I Say Again - make sure you repeat something important “being overrun”
- All Stations - everybody
- Any Station - somebody
- Lima Charlie - loud and clear
- Klicks - Kilometers
- Delta Hotel - direct hit
- Mikes - minutes
- Oscar Mike - on the move
- Stepped On - someone talking over you
