Team SOP - Patrol Linear Danger Area (LDA)

A linear danger area is a tactical scenario where a small group (1-4 individuals) in an SHTF context must cross or navigate an exposed, linear feature like a road or river, using stealth and silent communication to minimize detection and maintain security in urban or rural settings.

Slow, Steady, Safe

Steps

  1. Patrol is halted
  2. Team Leader takes point and performs leaders recon
  3. TL and pointman return and brief team on plan

Methods

Near Side security is posting a man on the side closest to the patrol. Far Side security is posting a man on the other far side (ie across the road).

Which method/strategy may depend on team composition (fire team, squad, how many men).

  • Near/Near
  • Far/Far
  • Near/Near, Far/Far

Team SOP is to assume near/near and far/far if 4-5+ man team. Given a fire team, where we are not working with a squad with other fire teams, default to 1 and 2 man posting up first and rest of the team flowing through.

Flow Through

Notes

  • Continuous movement, but man 1 and 2 post up left/right, while rest of team moves through?
  • Variation of calling far side and having 1/2 man post up and wait for everyone?
  • Issuing a flow through/bypass crossing should just signify keep it moving, and guys should know to pick up security smoothly?

Steps

  1. Patrol passes down the LDA hand signal
  2. Team Leader gives the "post security" signal to indicate a smooth, flow through crossing
  3. Team crosses together, covering sectors of fire/direction of danger
