Training - Scenario 1: Night Ambush Recovery
Scenario 1: Night Ambush Recovery
Setting
- A wooded logging road in a national forest during nighttime
- The team is patrolling when they encounter an ambush simulation
Objectives
Team Objective
Successfully execute an immediate action drill to break contact and then regroup safely.
Exercise Details
Setup
- The team starts in a staggered column formation moving down the logging road
- An ambush is simulated using flashlights or noise-makers to represent gunfire from the sides of the road
- Draw one of the IAD cards to determine break contact or counterattack
Actions
- Upon the ambush trigger, the team must quickly transition to an immediate action drill
- One part of the team provides suppressive fire while the others move to cover
- Once in cover, the team leader organizes a withdrawal in diamond formation to a designated rally point 200 meters back along the road
MARCH Medical Training Application
- After breaking contact, treat simulated injuries based on the MARCH protocol (Massive hemorrhage, Airway, Respiration, Circulation, Hypothermia/Head injury). This includes applying tourniquets, managing airways, and checking for signs of shock.
Debrief
Discuss the effectiveness of the immediate action drill, communication during the crisis, and medical response.
