Scenario 2: Reconnaissance and Secure
Setting
- A wooded logging road
- The mission is to recon a supposed enemy encampment
Objectives
Team Objective
Gather intelligence on the 'enemy' position and secure a key point without engaging in combat.
Individual Object
Each team member should fulfill a specific role, e.g. pointman, team leader, medic, rifleman, comms.
Exercise Details
Setup
- Two teams split from the squad; one for reconnaissance, one for security
- Two team member “HQ” team to receive reports
- The reconnaissance team moves in file formation to approach stealthily while the security team sets up in a diamond formation at a chokepoint.
Actions
- The reconnaissance team uses night vision to map out the 'enemy' encampment, noting positions, numbers, and any strategic points (like communication hubs or supply caches)
- The security team must hold their position to ensure no enemy forces can approach the reconnaissance team from the rear
Secure the Point
After gathering intelligence, the reconnaissance team signals the security team. Together, they secure a strategic point (like a high ground or a narrow section of the road) using cover and concealment.
Debrief
Review the stealth approach, intelligence gathering accuracy, and the effectiveness of securing the point.
